Let me just start this post by asking one question:
Have you ever had a cannoli?
If you answered “no” to this question, then what are you doing with your life?
You might just be visiting this post because you are pondering the thought of making this delicious treat at home. However, go try one first and then return to this post. You will come back with a whole new mindset. Suddenly your desire to make a cannoli will be even greater.
My husband and I tried one from Carlo’s Bakery on our honeymoon – you know, the Cake Boss guy – and wow. It was one of the most amazing desserts I have ever tasted.
So without further ado, let’s learn how to make our own so we can all indulge in this greatness on a regular basis:
Dough, duh.
You will need to start by prepping the dough. To do this, you will take most of the ingredients listed for the dough in the recipe and mix them up. Obviously, this is my quick breakdown of the recipe to give you an idea of what all making cannolis entails. Please see the recipe link for the full recipe.
Flat, flat, flatten it out.
Yep, now that you have the dough ready you will do what you normally do with dough and flatten it out. This will get you ready to actually form the cannoli.
Ready? Here we go.
Now you will need to make the cannoli.
Form, fill, repeat.
Using the instructions, you will form the shape of the cannoli. Over and over again. Then you will fry them – this is what really makes them good. Once you’ve formed and fried all the cannolis, let them cool and then fill them with a creamy goodness – aka ricotta, sugar, and cinnamon. Oh my gosh, are you as hungry as I am?
And voila! You have a masterpiece now. Sounds easy enough, right? I’m headed to the kitchen now!
